It adds some more artillery like hand-mounted rockets for traditional dojo recruitment as well as beefing up garrisons with some extra artillery pieces. It also adds Empire/Napoleon:TW era smoothbore guns that mix it up a bit, giving you something earlier to use than hauling around weak wooden cannons as well as horse-mounted guns that have better movement speed on the campaign map. It also helps really highlight the vast difference between smoothbore guns from an earlier era and the explosive artillery shell cannons that come into play in the late 19th century.
